What Is Cellulite
Cellulite is quite common, especially in women. But what is cellulite, really? The simple answer is that it’s a “harmless” condition of the skin that makes the skin look lumpy and dimpled. It’s often referred to as “cottage cheese” or “orange peel.” Cellulite most often affects the skin on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen.
Although it’s “harmless,” as far as a skin condition is concerned, it’s universally hated by women. It causes women to be very dissatisfied with their appearance. So, in fact, it isn’t harmless at all. On the contrary, it’s harmful to a woman’s self-image and self-esteem.
But there is treatment available for cellulite. In fact, the owner of La Bella e Famosa, Elizabeth Harris, has developed a device called CelluSleek Exclusive that can treat cellulite in all of its stages. Yes, cellulite removal really is possible.
A Look at the Cellular Level to Answer the What Is Cellulite Question
This is a cross-section showing the three layers of normal, healthy skin. The three layers are the epidermis, the subdermis, and the subcutaneous tissue, called the hypodermis. The development of cellulite progresses through four stages.
During Stage 1, the collagen and elastin striations start to become thinner as the fibroblasts do not create as many fibers and the cellular function slows down. The adipocytes (adipose tissue) begin to congregate and push their way up to the surface of the skin. The process becomes less effective and the lymphatic system begins to back up. The capillary walls begin to lose elasticity and very necessary nutrients are dumped out into the interstitial fluid and become unusable as building blocks.
In Stage 2, the collagen and elastin present lessens even more as the fibroblasts continue to slow their function and less collagen and elastin is created. It is more difficult for the cells to produce the fibers due to increased blockage of the lymphatic system and breakage of collagen walls. This restricts the process even further.
During Stage 3, the body begins to recognize the adipocyte groups as foreign to the subdermal layer and creates a protein barrier around them to keep them “walled off.”
Finally, in Stage 4 , the fibroblast activity is almost non-existent. The lymphatic system is backed up so that nothing can exchange causing extreme congestion. In addition, the capillary walls have practically become shredded and nutrients are being lost into the interstitial fluid, which makes it very hard to rebuild the collagen and elastin strands.
In Stage 3 Cellulite, it is absolutely necessary to begin loosening the protein bands and stimulate the fibroblast. This is exactly what the CelluSleek Exclusive device does. Once the fibroblast becomes more active and the collagen and elastin band becomes thicker, the cells begin to migrate back to their original position.
Stage 4 is very difficult cellulite to treat. It requires percussion to break down the protein strands which have gotten extremely hard and thick. Vibration is also necessary to soften the facia, while the suction is imperative to stimulating fibroblast activity. The CelluSleek Exclusive incorporates percussion, vibration, and suction in one treatment.
